Roleplay Introduction

Darkwood Manor is owned by Miss Mortica and she wishes to sell the house however, the villagers have told stories about the house saying it has ghosts and so she has been unable to sell the house.
So she advertises in the local paper .


Advert states
£100 offered to anyone who can spend one night in Darkwood Manor.

Roleplay:Teacher in Role

At a hotel meeting the characters who want to stay in the house as Miss Mortica

discuss why they want to stay Be very severe!!!


Group work
In groups of four or five
two as villagers , two or three students as characters from Hotel create a scene where the characters ask about the stories about the house and the villagers tell ghost stories about the house.and warn them not to go. Try to build tension and avoid comedy.

Still imagining what Darkwood manor is like
Class face inwards two rows
all doorways tap on persons doorway describe what they see in room behind the door.
Then perhaps show a freeze frame of some of the rooms.






Roleplay
Imagine Strange the butler has locked you in the house for the night from7pm-7am.
It is the middle of the night and you have fallen asleep and in groups you describe the nightmares you might have. Present one of the nightmares from each group.

Scratching scene
Create a scene where a group of you hear a scratching noise, go up to the point where you are about to find out what it is.

Pair work
The students are then told that the scratching noise comes from an eight year old girl who is the real owner of the house , Miss Mortica is her aunt. Her parents died and Miss mortica has locked her away in a secrect room.Strange brings food for her.

In pairs , one plays a character and the other the little girl,
create a scene where the character finds the little girl and finds out the truth.

Teacher in role
Miss mortica back at the hotel the next day asks the characters to tell her if they saw any ghosts .

She claims they will get their money soon. Tries to resist hearing about the girl. If they insist denies it and leaves quickly.

Discuss how they feel about Miss Mortica.

End scene

Create scene for endiong of play. Present.

Discuss how create tension in Horror and what techniques can help. Then ask them to create their own horror play and present.
